Duration: 01.03.2011 - 28.02.2014

To enhance and support digitally-enabled research across the arts and humanities

The infrastructure shall facilitate the ICT-based exchange of knowledge, expertise, methodologies and practices across domains and disciplines and support the sustainability of any activities in the Arts and Humanities ecosystem. Research opportunities and outcomes will be improved through linking distributed digital source materials of many kinds. DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities will work with communities of practice to explore and apply ICT-based methods and tools to enable new research questions to be asked and old questions to be posed in new ways.

This large-scale EU-funded project takes part in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRIEuropean Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) and will establish a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERICEducation Resources Information Center) as appropriated legal framework, which creates partnerships between EU-countries.

DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities will be organized around 4 Virtual Competency Centers (VCCs):

  • VCC1 building domain-specific research infrastructures
  • VCC2 fostering research and education
  • VCC3 developing standards and recommendations for research data and
  • VCC4 developing strategies in the area of advocacy and outreach for digital humanities.

Each VCCVirtual Competency Center will have numerous contributors and each DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities partner will be able to contribute to multiple VCCs.

Currently partners from 16 European countries expressed their interest to take part in DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, 10 countries are willing to join the DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities-ERICEducation Resources Information Center, among them Germany with 17 institutions already working on the national roadmap. All together they will form the DARIAHDigital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities network.
