:That's the usage in Reference Manager, but it doesn't say so in the RIS specification, and in EndNote it doesn't work like that. I suggest to leave the mapping as it is, because we can't know which software the users use to create their RIS data. Test records[edit]

Note: The following records are converted from EndNote and are thus not 100% correct according to the RIS specification. The problems listed in the next section are nevertheless also true for strict RIS records.

TY - JOUR
AB - This article does not focus on translation per se but on cultural exchange and intercultural influences as precipitated and mediated by translation. Manga is a prime example for this kind of exchange. With the translation of manga into German and the ensuing popularity, German artists started producing manga of their own. Some of these manga were (and some still are) an amalgam of elements of European comics and Japanese manga and tried to find new ways of expression within the format. Others, however, have all the characteristics of a simulacrum: They look like manga translated from Japanese into German. However, as with every simulacrum, there is no original. In the case of these manga, there is no original Japanese version. Problems[edit]

Prio A[edit]

  • Character encoding error: German Umlauts are transformed into (and results in other errors).
    • not reproduceable. need more info--Kurt 11:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
  • SP is not mapped to Pages. (postponed)
    • Start-page can just be mapped if there is a source. I would not map it to total-number-of-pages because it is not the meaning of the field and might cause confusion.--Kurt 11:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
  • PB is not mapped to Publishing Info. (solved--Kurt 12:20, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • CY is not mapped to Publishing Info. (solved--Kurt 12:20, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • ISBN (SN) is not mapped to Standard Identifier.(solved--Kurt 12:46, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • LA is not mapped to Language(s).
    • postponed (see WoS Talk page)--Kurt 12:20, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Prio B[edit]

  • Only A1 is accepted as author field tag, AU is not supported. (solved--Kurt 12:28, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • A2 data is not accepted - PROBLEM: "A creator's family name is not provided.".(solved--Kurt 12:36, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • Erroneous handling of compound author name: "de la Iglesia,Martin" becomes "Creators: la Iglesia, de, Author
    Martin, Author"
    • matter of AuthorDecoder (Michael).--Kurt 11:51, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Not clear[edit]

  • Adresses are not assigned to Affiliation, which instead says "External Organizations, escidoc:persistent22". (not a bug, see spec--Kurt 13:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • Unlike in the other mappings, the default Date Type is "Published in print" instead of "Created". (not yet fixed--Kurt 13:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • Keywords are only separated by space, and thus hardly readable.(not yet fixed--Kurt 13:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • A T3 title in a BOOK record doesn't generate a Source (i.e. book series).(not yet fixed--Kurt 13:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC))
  • "TY - JOUR" is mapped to "Genre: Other", journal data is missing! (not yet fixed--Kurt 13:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC))

Consolidation of RIS mapping[edit]

Thesis[edit]

For thesis it is possible to create start page and end page, see:

in PubMan this can only be created if there is a source. Shall we map SP and EP for Theses to total number of pages? If we don't the information on start page and end page simply gets lost. --Nicole 07:13, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

VL is mapped to Volume in PubMan, but should be mapped to edition.

Right. However, please note that it doesn't work that way in EndNote (EndNote uses the non-standard field ET for edition in its RIS export). --Martin de la Iglesia 12:58, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

VL is mapped to Source.Volume, should be source.edition. M2 is not created in PubMan at all. Should be source.volume.
