Changes in APA for R5[edit]

Issues on the discussion page will be implemented and moved to the main page as soon as they are tested and working.

Overall changes[edit]

  • all genres: Add a comma before the ampersand in editors. For example, by book chapter, following citation is exported: Levinson, S. C. (2003). Contextualizing 'contextualization cues'. In S. Eerdmans, C. Prevignano & P. Thibault (Eds.), Language and interaction: Discussions with John J. Gumperz (pp. 31-39). Amsterdam: John Benjamins. (there should be an additional comma before "& P. Thibault")
  • genres series and journal: There should be no date in the citation, as it is not logical for these genres. At the moment, it is not possible to give a date for journal or series, and so the citations look ok. But it the case of pre-existing items (and possibly also imported items) that do have a date in their MD, this date is exported in the citation. Please specify how these "problematic" items need to be handled.
  • --Makarenko 14:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC): The dates are excluded for the genres. Please, update specs accordingly.
  • include Edition into the citation for Book Chapter and Book
  • --Makarenko 14:28, 5 May 2009 (UTC): Please, specify the layout element for the the geres.
  • --Despoina 09:25, 7 May 2009 (UTC) Example for book with edition in the citation:
Mitchell, T. R., & Larson, J. R., Jr. (1987). People in organizations: An introduction to organizational behavior (3rd ed.). New York: McGraw-Hill.
(The corresponding rule would be: Author, A. A. (Year of publication). Title: Alternative Title (Edition [ed.]). Place of Publication: Name of Publisher. )
Example for Book Chapter with edition in the citation (please note that in book chapters, the edition can be found in Source Details):
Maccoby, E. E., & Martin, J. (1983). Socialization in the context of the family: Parent - child interaction. In P. H. Mussen (Ed.), Handbook of child psychology: Vol. 4. Socialization, personality, and social development (4th ed., pp. 1-101). New York: Wiley.
  • submitted publications (IMPORTANT)

citation should like this: Author, A. A. (submitted). Title of publication. Now, there is nothing in brackets and the journal title is mentioned which should not be given. --Karin 19:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

  • in preparation publications

citation should like this: Author, A. A. (in preparation). Title of publication. --Karin 18:10, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Talk at event[edit]

Author, A. A., & Author, B. (Year of Event). Publication.Title. Event.Title. Event.Place, Start Date of Event - End Date of Event.

e.g. Smith, J. H., & Thomas, R. (1996). Relaxation therapy for elderly insomniacs. Symposium in insomnia. Uppsala, Sweden, 2007-03-29 - 2007-03-31.

Poster[edit]

recommendation for poster: Author (year, month of meeting). Title. Poster presented at Title of Event, Place of Event. example, edoc id:http://edoc.mpg.de/398451 should read:

Van Alphen, P.M., & Van Berkum, J.J.A. (2006, March). About embarking dogs and gracious mice: An ERP study on the integration of embedded words. Poster presented at the Annual CUNY conference on human sentence processing, San Diego, CA.--Karin 13:28, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Implemented? Please check code. --Nicole 09:17, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
  • --Makarenko 14:58, 5 May 2009 (UTC): Implemented with workflow:
  • if event/start-date is defined, then year_of_start_date, month_of_start-date
  • if event/end-date is defined and event/start-date is not defined, then year_of_end-date, month_of_end_date
  • if event/end-date is not defined and event/start-date is not defined, then common_date

Lecture/ Courseware (Teaching)[edit]

Take same citation as for Talk at Event.

Outcome of telco with Karin. --Nicole 13:29, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

(proposal --Karin 12:02, 19 March 2009 (UTC))

Author, A. (Year). Title. EventTitle. University, Place of University, Start date - End date.

  • If start-end date of event missing in MD, the citation ends with ",.". Please remove the comma.
  • --Makarenko 15:16, 5 May 2009 (UTC). Implemented exactly how it is defined here, not same as Talk at Event.
