The MPI for Psycholinguistics initiated a series of eScience seminars within the Max Planck Society. These seminars focus on necessary preconditions to enable science to benefit from distributed network environments like the Internet or the Grid in an effective manner. The eScience Seminar is coordinated by Marc Kemps-Snijders (chair), Bernhard Neumair, Ulrich Schwardmann, Thomas Soddemann, Stefan Heinzel, Laurent Romary, Malte Dreyer, Robert Casties, Hermann Schier, Rainer Gerling, Uwe Brahm, Gerhard Weikum, Peter Wittenburg.

Target groups (their functions)[edit]
- Main focus on MPG scientists and staff
- Representatives of other research organizations are welcomed
Directors, management representatives:
- Awareness building, transfer of strategical knowledge, input in discussions on formation and infrastructure
Scientists:
- Awareness building, transfer of concrete knowledge
Developers:
- Transfer of concrete knowledge
Planned activities[edit]
- Topic-clusters will be offered for specific target groups => seminars from 2-5 days (2-day course for directors)
- Within the topic cluster, re-combinable modules will be developed
- Focus of knowledge transfer on “grid technologies” and “semantic web technologies” (5 day seminar each)
- Seminars will be organised by RZG (Rechenzentrum Garching) and technical group of MPI Psycholinguistics. Support will be provided by the MPG.
- Experts will be invited to each of the seminars, with special attention on external experts for the seminars organised for directors
- Seminars will start in summer 2006
eScience Seminar Topics 2007 are
- service and information registries (22/23. Märx Göttingen)
- secure server and service systems (20/21. Juni München)
- open archivable formats (25/26/ Oktober Berlin)
The flyer describing the eScience seminars in 2007 can be downloaded here (eScience_Flyer_2006-11-07.pdf). After the two first seminars the BAR decided that the series should be continued. A draft version of a document describing concrete results and planned activities can be found under [Results]. A special expert group dealing with setting up distributed authentication and authorization infrastructure (AAI) has been setup. For details see [Working Groups].
Topics are:
- service registries
- authentication & authorization infrastructure (AAI)
AAI expert group[edit]
the next meeting will be at Do. 26. July 2007 in MPI Solid State Science, Stuttgart, 10:00 - 17.00.
Subject will be federation policies and attribute sets. We will have a close look on policies from
