Preparatory phase

• Receive digitized backfiles from external provider as PDF/A-1a (some test files)
• Manual submission in testcollection
• testing ingest tool (METS, assignment PID on article level)
• document requirements for ingest tool

2. number of items (180.000 pages, delivered bundled into articles, as PDF/A-1a)

Status:

• Sent (commented) XML schema and spec to digitization provider (done end of January 2008)
• We will get METS data; (Andreas sent a request for example datasets to digitization agency (April and May 2008). Andreas requested a METS example again in June and July 2008.
• The articles will be published online using a CC-BY-NC-ND license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/de/

Next steps and milestones

• ingestion of METS/MODS and pdfs
• milestone 1: batch ingest of all PDFs on a migration server (End of November 2009)
• specification of functionality and gui
• milestone 2: spec for functionality and gui done; basic GUI (entry point for searching/browsing in backfiles is a dedictated wordpress interface for PubMan, the publisher will link to the PubMan collection)(End of December 2009)
• milestone 3: adpations GUI/CSS (Browsing tree, item view, download pdf) (End of Febuary 2010)
