| The word "imeji" |
Das japanische Wort imeji oder イメージ ist dem englischen Wort „image“ entlehnt, was sich in erster Linie mit „Bild“ übersetzen lässt. Im japanischen werden diesem Wort allerdings noch weitere Bedeutungen beigemessen: Gestalt, Figur, Form, Phänomen, Spiegelbild, Reflexion und auch Gesamtheit von Eindrücken. Auf diese Weise wird das Aufgabenfeld des Bilddatenrepositorys imeji, das Wissenschaftsdisziplinen überschreitende kollaborative Arbeiten an jedweder Form von Abbildung und die Erfahrbarmachung der Gesamtheit der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse an zentraler Stelle, in einem Wort zusammengefasst.

imeji is a scientific media data management application for scholars who want to save their media data on the web, while also maintaining the corresponding metadata and its values, for data completeness. A full detailed description of the imeji software can be found on the imeji software page. imeji is published under the CDDL - License

| The community |
The imeji Community is an open source community around the imeji software. The imeji community was originated in March 2012 from the Max Planck Digital Library, the Institute of Art and Visual History of the Humboldt Universität Berlin and the Konrad Zuse Internet Archive of the Freie Universität Berlin. The aim is to ensure the sustainability of the imeji software and to enable further stable software development.
