DARIAH-DE/-EU
Project aims[edit]
DARIAH - Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities
Duration: 01.03.2011 - 28.02.2014
To enhance and support digitally-enabled research across the arts and humanities
The infrastructure shall facilitate the ICT-based exchange of knowledge, expertise, methodologies and practices across domains and disciplines and support the sustainability of any activities in the Arts and Humanities ecosystem. Research opportunities and outcomes will be improved through linking distributed digital source materials of many kinds. DARIAH will work with communities of practice to explore and apply ICT-based methods and tools to enable new research questions to be asked and old questions to be posed in new ways.
This large-scale EU-funded project takes part in the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) and will establish a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) as appropriated legal framework, which creates partnerships between EU-countries.
DARIAH will be organized around 4 Virtual Competency Centers (VCCs):
- VCC1 building domain-specific research infrastructures
- VCC2 fostering research and education
- VCC3 developing standards and recommendations for research data and
- VCC4 developing strategies in the area of advocacy and outreach for digital humanities.
Each VCC will have numerous contributors and each DARIAH partner will be able to contribute to multiple VCCs.
Currently partners from 16 European countries expressed their interest to take part in DARIAH, 10 countries are willing to join the DARIAH-ERIC, among them Germany with 17 institutions already working on the national roadmap. All together they will form the DARIAH network.
