Who am I[edit]

Student assistant worked at Max-Planck Institute, Albert-Einstein Institute. Still working on projects at GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences Centre for GeoInformation Technology in potsdam. Additionally I work on my bachelor theory of "transfering research data into digital infrastructre" on faculty of information professionals at the 'university of applied sciences' FHP also in potsdam.

DOI - Research help[edit]

For the often used research on doi references, I've created some search index file for the Firefox Browser Search Panel. It helps to find every doi reference easily. The search engine web interface supported by the doi organisation can be found at http://dx.doi.org.

Firefox DOI plug-in[edit]

This is a beta Search plug-in for doi documents and the citation index database. Simply download the file and put into your home directory, if on *nix or linux you can find it in the ".mozilla/firefox/" sudirectory, then change from here into a special session-directory, my own was ".mozilla/firefox/y1cjpcw8.default" look for the "searchplugins" directory and put this Media:doisearch.xml file into it. Restart your Firefox Browser and enjoy your doi research. After restarting firefox simply choose the doi-search in the list of the searchbar. Type in your doi document reference and hit enter.

For any other operating system, try to find the path I mentioned above. This plug-in will work on any Firefox version inclusive 3.0.14.

keeping research data safe[edit]

As I mentioned above, some doi search will help to find documents from every terminal, where ever you live. This advantage considerably supports the every day research process between scientists and instituts. But more significant than the discovery is to have a sustainable solution to keep the research data safe. I've found this JISC-Study written by Neil Beagrie, Julia Chruszcz, and Brian Lavoie. It contains a study that has investigated the medium to long term costs to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of the preservation of research data and developed guidance to HEFCE and institutions on these issues.
