Topics[edit]

  • Fashion wave or driving force of progress?, 18 February 2009
    • Responsible for content:
      • Peter Wittenburg, MPI for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen,
      • Wolfgang Voges, MPDL and MPI for Extraterrestrial Physics, Garching
    • Background: After two years of eScience Seminars held within the MPG, which led to several concrete results, we invited all directors to discuss these topics together with external speakers at an event at the evening right before the Section meetings in February.
    • Place: MPI f. Molecular Genetics, Berlin
  • Repository Systems, 25/26 June 2009
    • Responsible for contents:
      • Michael Lautenschlager (MPI f. Meteorology),
      • Malte Dreyer (MPDL),
      • Peter Wittenburg (MPI Nijmegen)
    • Background: This eScience seminar is devoted to one of the big challenges for research institutes: how to guarantee persistence and continuous access to its records to all interested and authorized researchers. Therefore, each institute needs to have a strategy of how to manage the increasing amounts and complexity of data, how to guarantee online access to it and how to replicate the data for preservation purposes. Invited speakers will present different views on repositories with corresponding requirements as well as possible solutions to these issues. The seminar will give us a more complete picture of the current issues and possible solutions for the Max Planck Society.
    • Place: RZG Garching, Munich
  • Concept registries, 22/23 October 2009
    • Responsible for content:
      • Marc Kemps-Snijders (MPI Nijmegen)
      • Menzo Windhouwer (MPI Nijmegen)
      • Andreas Gros (MPDL)
    • Background: The combination of different data sets for scientific research is
