Mapping Remarks[edit]
Table layout[edit]
Is there a reason for the fixed widths? I don't like scrolling.--Martin de la Iglesia 06:23, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
author data: sourceDesc vs. titleStmt[edit]
I was a bit surprised to find that author data is only taken from the source description. I don't know what the TEI data used in the PEER project is going to look like, but some providers use the title statement for author information instead - e.g. the example in the TEI guidelines, see http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/html/HD.html#id2493393 -, and some provide author information in both the titleStmt and the sourceDesc.--Martin de la Iglesia 09:04, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
persName[edit]
The forename and surname tags seem to be only optional (http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/html/ND.html#id2675825), so it might be a good idea to map names written directly into persName to Person.CompleteName.--Martin de la Iglesia 09:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Person.CompleteName is a field which will not be displayed in the edit item mask of pubman, therefor I would map values written directly in the persName element to Person.FamilyName --Friederike 09:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Mapping is updated!
roleName[edit]
What about mapping the roleName to Person.Title? --Martin de la Iglesia 09:34, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- After discussion with Natasa: We will not map this element, as it is not part of application profile.--Friederike 13:21, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I always use PubMan_Metadata_Sets. I hope someday there will be only one authoritative specification. --Martin de la Iglesia 08:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- You are so right ;), sorry for confusion, we are currently trying to synchronize, clean up etc. of the metadata sets, profiles.--Friederike 09:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I always use PubMan_Metadata_Sets. I hope someday there will be only one authoritative specification. --Martin de la Iglesia 08:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
respStmt[edit]
The persons usually listed in the responsibility statement seem to fit nicely into some PubMan CreatorRoles, e.g. Editor, Commentator, or Transcriber. So maybe the respStmt.names should be mapped to Creator. The CreatorRole of those Creators could be either derived from the <resp> tag, or simply set to "Contributor".--Martin de la Iglesia 11:03, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
editionStmt[edit]
Since the edition statement is 'optional but recommended' (http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/HD.html#HD22), it might be a good idea to map its data. Data in <date> tags could be mapped to Date.Date, and data in <edition> tags could be mapped to PublishingInfo.Edition. --Martin de la Iglesia 11:12, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- I added edition. For the date i think we can not map it correctly, due to date type. therefor I would not map it at all.--Friederike 07:44, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
bibl and biblFull[edit]
Again, I don't know which TEI data is going to be mapped, but so far, only biblStruc seems to be supported in this mapping. Don't you want to support nested bibl and biblFull elements as well? --Martin de la Iglesia 11:26, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Not in this mapping, as this is PEER specific. Probably in future when we create 'general' TEI mapping --Friederike 07:44, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
series[edit]
Since it seems possible to create items with Genre='Series' in PubMan, shouldn't the series level be supported as well, in addition to analytic and monographic? --Martin de la Iglesia 11:29, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- relevant for generic mapping--Friederike 14:01, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
publicationStmt[edit]
In case we wanted to map records of items that were 'born digital', we'd have to consider the publication statement data. However, I guess only records of retro-digitized items are going to be mapped? --Martin de la Iglesia 11:41, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- This as well would be nice for general TEI mapping--Friederike 07:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
