ESciDoc PublicationType Encoding Scheme

This document defines a simple vocabulary for use with the dc:type property in the eSciDoc Application Profile. The vocabulary consists of seventeen classes (listed below) where each of the classes corresponds to one of the key entities in the eSciDoc Model.

http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Article Article An intellectually closed text, which is published in or submitted to a print or e-journal, magazine, special issue, newspaper or repository. All articles have passed or will pass some editorial review and/or have been peer-reviewed.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Book Book Either an authored or edited book. A book is defined as already published or intended to be published (publication data already available).
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/BookItem Book Item A part of a book.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Proceedings Proceedings Collection of conference papers and talks, from a conference or a series of conferences.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/ConferencePaper Conference Paper Written composition of a presentation at a conference. It might be published within proceedings.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/TalkAtEvent Talk at Event A manuscript or recording of a presentation or talk. It is characterised by the event where it is held.

http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Poster Poster A visual stand-alone display of research results at a conference.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/CoursewareLecture Courseware/Lecture Materials characterised by its educational purpose. This could be one or a series of lectures, course material for seminars or tutorials. The courseware / lecture material can be reused in several educational purposes and is therefore not closely related to a singular event.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Thesis Thesis Thesis (= Hochschulschrift): A text or aggregation of items to reach a certain degree, e.g. PhD, German Magister, Master, etc.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Paper Paper A paper reflects innovative concepts and ideas within a discipline in order to stimulate new research and challenges current theories in science. It does not necessarily have to be a concluded contribution based on scientific research. In difference to an article, a paper does not have to meet the editorial standards for publishing and citing.

Reports are often published by the funding organisation or by the academic institution where the work has been carried out. Reports can be defined as grey/informal literature, because they are in the most cases not published formally.

http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Manuscript Manuscript A handwritten or typewritten manuscript.
http://escidoc.mpg.de/metadataprofile/schema/0.1/publicationtypes/Other Other This genre should be used for any resource you cannot assign to any existing genre type.
