One requirement of the ViRR Solution is the usage of METS.

Requirements[edit]

The METS profile should cover the profile for the DFG Viewer and for Goobi (GDZ).

DFG Viewer[edit]

Status and Impact
According to the ZVDD presentation on the 97. Deutsche Bibliothekstag by Sebastian Meyer, the DFG viewer may become the primary presentation tool for projects funded by DFG: "[...] wird die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft einem Entwurf ihrer ab Oktober gültigen Praxisregeln zufolge künftige Digitalisierungsprojekte verpflichten, den DFG-Viewer als „primäres Anzeigeinstrument“ zu verwenden".
Usage of the DFG Viewer
To use the DFG Viewer for the display of digitalized work, three components have to be accessible through a simple web access:
  1. The metadata of the digitalized work has to be available in the METS/MODS format
  2. The width of the digitalized work has to be between 1000 and 1500 pixel
  3. One file (108 pixel wide and 50 pixel high) with the name and the logo of the project (or institute) has to be provided
--> The transformation (in XSLT) from the eSciDoc container format to METS will be delivered by the framework

Structural Data
The DFG Viewer provides a standardized of structural elements which can be used for identification of the different parts within the digitized books (e.g. chapter, cover). This list also contains a mapping to the vocabulary used by the ZVDD, which is similar to the one from the DFG Viewer, but not so detailed. So its easy ti fulfill the requirement from the DFG to deliver all the metadata to the ZVDD.
--> Has to be part of the specification!

Goobi[edit]

Goobi is a project of the GDZ (Göttinger Digitalisierungszentrum).
